President: Maya Schechter

I’m Maya, Sigma Delt’s President for the 2013 year. I’m originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, and at Dartmouth am majoring in Geography, modified with Government, and minoring in Sustainability. The women of Sigma Delt continually impress and motivate me with their strength, intelligence and integrity, and I’m honored to serve such a wonderful, powerful sisterhood.

Standards and Development Chair: Hannah Williams

I’m Hannah, majoring in Government, but I am much more excited about my minor in Digital Arts. I’m from Evergreen Colorado and am happy that New Hampshire has some of the same outdoors-y activities as home. This year I am the Standards and Development Chair and am looking forward to finding further sustainable ways to improve the house and tailor our house to what the sisterhood itself wants. My favorite thing about being a part of Sigma Delt is being in the company of people willing to engage in more than just small talk and school talk. I would not be the person I am today without the sisters in this house pushing me and supporting me.

Treasurer: Aislinn McLaughlin

I’m Aislinn and I’m majoring in Environmental Studies. I hail from O Little Town of Bethlehem, Connecticut and I’m so excited to work with everyone as Treasurer of Sigma Delt this year. I love that Sigma Delt has allowed me to connect with so many talented and inspirational women on campus. Sigma Delt has become one of the most important facets of my life at Dartmouth and I have my sisters to thank for that. I love that it’s a place I can come home to.

Philanthropy Chair: Molly Thornton

Hi! I’m Molly Thornton, a proud member of the Dartmouth Class of 2014 and Sigma Delta Sorority, hailing from Monrovia, California. As a geography major and sociology minor with an interest in inequality and social justice, I’m excited to use my academic interests for the betterment of the sisterhood by serving as Sigma Delt’s Philanthropy Chair this coming year. I am so honored to be a member of such an inspiring group of women that challenges me each and every day to grow and explore in ways I never imagined.

Scholarship Chair: Stephanie Barnhart

I’m Stephanie, majoring in English with a minor in Studio Arts. I’m from Palm Beach, Florida and for me, finding Sigma Delt made my Dartmouth experience much more meaningful and fulfilling. I found a place where I know the women always have my back and will stand up for me. But more importantly, I’ve found amazing friends in Sigma Delt who have helped me at my worst and encouraged me to just keep going. The women who surround me aren’t afraid to have the tough conversations, to speak their mind, and for that I’m extremely thankful. These are just some of the reasons I’m so excited to be Scholarship Chair for the 2013-14 school year.

Programming Chair: Alison Leung

Hi! My name is Alison, and I’m a Studio Art major and a Chinese minor here at Dartmouth. I’m a southern girl at heart, originally from Atlanta, Georgia. Coming to Dartmouth has been such a positive experience, and Sigma Delt has played a huge part in that. Sigma Delt has taught me to always be confident in myself and in my ideas, and I am so proud to be a part of such a supportive and goofy and all around inspiring community of women.

Alumnae Chair: Olivia Evans

I’m Olivia, majoring in Romance Languages and minoring in International Studies. Originally from San Francisco, I’m so happy to have come to Dartmouth and found a second home here at Sigma Delt. I’ve loved being in the house and getting to know a broad group of incredibly unique, passionate, and dynamic girls among which I can call my very best friends. I’m particularly excited to be this year’s Alumnae Chair where I hope to meet yet another group of dynamic and inspiring women!

Sisterhood Chair: Seanie Civale

I’m Seanie and I’m an English major (Creative Writing concentration) and Education minor from Los Angeles, California. Sigma Delt has given me some of my best friends, funniest memories, and most meaningful moments at Dartmouth. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to give back to such a special house as Sisterhood Chair!

Social Chair: Pallavi Kuppa-Apte

I’m Pallavi, a Government and Economics double major from outside of Philadelphia. Being in Sigma Delt is one of the best things to happen to me at Dartmouth! One of my favorite things about the women I’ve met in Sigma Delt is how involved they are across campus and how each one has exceptional passions and talents. I also love that Sigma Delts know how to have fun – and I’m so excited to be planning our social events as one of this year’s Social Chairs!

Social Chair: Meredith Sweeney

Hi, I’m Meredith, at Dartmouth I major in Government and minor in Asian and Middle Eastern Studies. I am from Hinsdale IL a suburb just outside of Chicago. I’ve loved getting to know the powerful, dynamic, and intelligent sisters that make Sigma Delt such a unique and welcoming place on campus. As one of Sigma Delt’s social Chairs this year I am excited to work with Pallavi to come up with entertaining new social events that foster friendship between our sisters and other Greek community members.

Panhellenic Council Representative: Victoria Fernandez

I’m Victoria, double majoring in History and Hispanic Studies. I was born in Venezuela but I’ve lived in Miami, FL for the majority of my life. I look forward to working with our Exec board and Panhellenic Council this coming year as the SD Panhellenic Representative. The thing I love most about SD is always being able to find inspiration, laughter, and support from the other girls in this house.

(The Lovely) New Member Welcomers: Anna Harty, Kit Dauten, and Meg Heisler

Hi! I’m Anna. I’m majoring in Government and minoring in Public Policy. I grew up in Severna Park, MD and came to Dartmouth excited to meet new people and form close friendships. Sigma Delt is a place that fosters fun, unexpected, and organic relationships; it is a support system on what can be a very stressful campus. Sigma Delt allows me to feel comfortable while also pushing me to grow.

Hi!! My name is Kit and I’m from just north of Chicago. I am majoring in psychology and minoring in education. Sigma Delt has been such a wonderful part of my Dartmouth career and has introduced me to some of the most inspiring, creative, fun and intelligent women on this campus. I absolutely love having a space I can call my own and sharing it with girls I can call my best friends and sisters. I am so excited to be a pledgucator and have the opportunity to really get to know the newest amazing members of our house.

Hello! I’m Meg, a geography major from Montclair, New Jersey. I love Sigma Delt because it is such a welcoming and encouraging space–capable of facilitating individual, interpersonal, and community growth, as well as general weirdness. This fall, I look forward to welcoming our new pledgetables as an FGM, alongside Kit and Anna!

President: Heather Beatty

I am from Toronto, Canada and I am an Art History major. I love Sigma Delt because it is a strong and cohesive family, one that seeks to empower women and create a space for group and individual growth. I fundamentally believe in the sanctity of our space on campus, in a physical sense, but more importantly in a spiritual sense. It is a group where sisters can congregate to respect themselves, respect women and respect their sisterhood. One of my female role models is a close friend and fellow Sigma Delt ’11, Kat Richardson. She is a strong, independent woman who continues to amaze me with her actions and words. This house is fantastic and I feel honoured to be a part of it!

Standards and Development Chair: Kate Burns

I’m Kate Burns and I’m taking over (or well the first to hold) the SD Chair position. Just a quick bit about this new position – it stands for Standards and Development and my job is to assist our wonderful new president Heather and also to work on some less tangible, long-term goals that will help make Sigma Delt even more amazing! As for a bit about me, I’m an Anthropology major modified with Global Health and International Development and I’m pre-med. While I love science classes and hours of lab, I’m so grateful that Sigma Delt has given me the opportunity to meet an amazing diverse group of women on campus who are just as passionate about their life goals as I am – from swimmers to social activists to slam poets we’ve got an amazing group that’s exposed me to so many other facets of Dartmouth. My mom is definitely my role model for a strong woman – she’s never let any challenge hold her back and has taught me that family is more important than anything, and that whenever you’re stressed just dance it out. Now that I think about it, that’s probably why I got into Irish Step dancing (I’m Irish), which I did for over five years throughout middle school and high school.

Houseman: Ashley Afranie-Sakyi

I’m a Sociology Major Modified with Women and Gender Studies and from Northern Virginia. My mom is a computer programmer.

Philanthropy: Rachel Abendroth

I am a Neuroscience major from Hershey, PA. I love this house so much and I am grateful, above all else, for the relationships formed and maintained because of my involvement in this house. My role model is Jane Goodall. Fun fact: there is a convenience store that gives out free slushies on my birthday in my honor!

Scholarship: Bailey Hoar

I like to refer to myself as Queen of the Nerds of Sigma Delt. I hail from Burlington, Vermont, but currently reside in the picturesque Topliff Hall. I am a Philosophy & Music major and a Classical Studies minor–so I spend a ton of time singing, looking at pictures of super-old things, and pondering questions that have no answers. (Sometimes at the same time!) In my spare time, I sing more –with the Decibelles and the Glee Club–and works for the Music and Philosophy Dept. I am also a tour guide, soI know a whole lot of obscure facts about Dartmouth! I am super-excited to plan all kinds of nerdy things for the house, especially to go to all of the 12s thesis presentations and to have profs over for a spring BBQ! My role models are Julie Andrews and mi madre. I love sigma delt because of our commitment to each other and the house. And because every sister I’ve met is one of the very coolest people in the world, and I’ve learned a ton about what I want to be because of them.

Programming: Thea Stutsman

I am an Art History major from Malibu, CA. Sigma Delt has been an incredibly empowering and important part of my time here at Dartmouth. It has facilitated relationships with women that I don’t know if I would have met otherwise who have taught me so much and have helped me grow in ways I had no way of imagining.

Interesting fact? I got a national award at a new york jazz festival for “outstanding soloist”.

Treasurer: Caitlin Ardrey

I’m a Government major with an International Studies minor. I’m from Greenwich, CT. I love Sigma Delt because I’ve gotten to meet a group of amazing women with diverse backgrounds and interests that I would not have had the opportunity to meet otherwise. My female role model is Madeline Albright. Interesting fact? I speak three languages!

Sisterhood: Hannah Giorgis

I’m from Anaheim, CA. I love Sigma Delt because our sisterhood is not only supportive and empowering, but also not afraid to just let go and be weird sometimes. When I grow up, I want to be Melissa Harris-Perry. I once watched 25 episodes of Law & Order: SVU in a row.

Alumnae: Meeta Prakash

I’m pre-dental and an Environmental Studies Major from Richmond, VA. I love Sigma Delt because it has taught me how to be comfortable with myself and it is filled with strong women who go after what they believe in. My female role model is my grandmother who started a school in Kenya and was a doctor before there were many female doctors. Interesting fact: I’ve visited six of the seven continents (can you guess which one I haven’t been to?)

Socials: Sara Stone

I designed my own major which is titled Anthropology modified with Ethics and it has a focus on global health and specifically inter-governmental and cross-cultural interactions. I also have a minor in International Studies. I am from Marion, MA. I love SD because it is this amazing female-dominated space and body of incredible women who are innovative, engaged, and supportive of a variety of different sisters’ interests (and also really fun)! I don’t really have a specific female role model – I tend to pick out the characteristics/traits of strong women and strive to incorporate them as I grow. An interesting fact about me is that I used to be a model!

& Kate O’Brien

I am Neuroscience Major and Art History Minor from Rancho Santa Margarita, California. I am Varsity Diver. I love sigma delta because it is a house/group strong women who empower one another, as well as support each sister to be an individual and pursue their passions. My female role model is my mother. Because she has over come so much in her life, and is so selfless and supportive when it comes to my family. Fun fact… I got a concussion when a tv fell on my head and I broke my femur running

The TV room got a beautiful new table this term, featuring tiles that sisters made at Tip Top Pottery during the fall. We’re working on putting our big TV in place so we can optimize sister screen bonding time – Downton Abbey this Sunday, anyone?

If you have any furniture or decorations (or funds!) you’d like to donate let us know.
